Scotland and its kilts

When we think about Scotland, we think mostly about the kilts !
Scottish symbol, the kilt is a traditional cloth  still worn nowadays. The kilt was originally worn in the Highlands, and was made by about fifteen meters of wool tartan, that persons wound around their waist and fixed with a belt. Kilts wear various colours specifs to each family.

The kilt stops at the knees, is wrinkled behind and flat in the front, where a pin holds the 2 sides of tissues to prevent it to fly !

The kilt is worn for special occasions, as marriages, or for the Highlands Games. It is more reserved for  men, although some women also wear it.
We can see it also during sports events or simply in the street, because the kilt is more and more worn in an everyday way.

The kilt is a raher expensive, going from £200 to more than £1000 according to the quality of the garment, the number of folds and the cutting, and can be made by Kilt Makers.

Ben Nevis - Highest Mountain in the UK

The Ben Nevis is not only the highest mountain in the UK but guess what - it is located in the middle of the schottish highlands close to Fort Williams.
People who are not very good exercised (like me) maybe like to just enjoy the view up to the mountain. For everybody who is into hiking or climbing should try to get up there. A friend of mine just made it. 1300 meters in only 3 h 10 min. But he goes hiking pretty often. So depending on the route you take, the weather and your personal conditions it could take a little bit longer :-)

Isle of Skye #5: Old Man of Storr and Elgol

One of the must-do's on Isle of Skye is visiting the Old Man of Storr - not only visiting but climbing up the mountain! It's a rocky hill with an adventures path through a foresty area. I felt like a hobbit on an adventure climbing up there. It takes at least 40 minutes but you will not regret. The view is estonishing. Just take care while climbing up to the rocks. And take some sturdy shoes with you on the trip ;-)

Elgol is a village on the shores of a Loch in the middle of the highlands. Surprise, surprise: you have wonderful view from there!

Dolphins at North Kessock

Want to see some dolphins ??? Go to North Kessock, not far away from Inverness. A best way to go there from Inverness is simply to take the bus, for less than £5.

Walk along the coast and watch the sea !!

You can stop at the White Cottage Tea Room, a lovely place to have a rest just next to the sea. Tea, coffee, hot chocolate and fresh food for an amazing day :)

Glengoyne Distillery - Whisky, Whisky, Whisky

Glengoyne Distillery
 http://www.glengoyne.com/

As Sophie said previously, you can’t come in Scotland without visiting a Whisky Distillery !
The Glengoyne Distillery has been founded in 1833, and it is the only Whisky Distillery in the Highlands to produce Highland single malt whisky matured in the Lowlands. Indeed, the Distillery is situated upon the Highlands Line, which means that the Distillery is located in the Highlands part, while maturing casks of whisky are located in the Lowlands !

The staff is awesome and very friendly !
Three tickets are proposed, but the better value one is the one for £10: it includes the tour and you taste 2 Whiskies (a 12th year old at the beginning, and a 18th year at the end of the visit!).

Here are two useful links to learn more about other distilleries:
