As you already noticed, Edinburgh has a lot of history and is very interesting. A lot of the stories in and around Edinburgh are scary though: executions, public punishments, witch persecutions... Edinburgh's past has everything to make some Hollywood Horror Movies. If you want to learn more about this, I can recommend you the Ghost Tours that take place every evening. They start on high street in front of the Starbucks and are really scary- so don't go there if you cannot handle witches ;-) The pictures show our guide, a wicked couch and a basement where presumed witches were tortured^^wuuhuuuu xx heidi

Most Scottish Breakfast in Edinburgh
If you are in Edinburgh and want to have a Scottish Breakfast, I can advise you the Maggie Dickson Pub, as this is a very traditional Pub that honors one of the most famous and popular residents in Edinburgh - surprise surprise- Maggie Dickson. Her story is as scandalous as funny. Maggie Dickson should be executed on the Haymarket some hundred years ago, because she got pregnant from a guy who was not her husband. People in Edinburgh loved executions, so everybody was on the Haymarket observing this event. Maggie was hanged. But on the way to the graveyard, the cabman riding the carriage heard some knocking... He opened the coffin and there Maggie was, saying Hi and being obviously not as dead as assumed. So, the cabman turned and went back to the Haymarket, excited to promote the news that now the people of Edinburgh can see a second execution! But, in the crowd there was a lawyer, telling the people that Maggie Dickson was condemned to death, but she was already declared as dead, so it is not right to execute her a second time. Lucky Maggie! From this day on, Maggie Dickson was famous, as she already received the highest punishment, she could do all the crimes and nobody would stop her. She went everyday on the market and didn't pay for anything she took. Nice story? xx heidi

Edinburgh, The Heart Of Midlothian, Why so Mysterious?
Guys, Have you ever heard about the heart of Midlothian?
It's built into the pavement near the West Door of the St. Giles High Kirkin, which is located on the high street section of the Royal mile in Edinburgh.
Behind the Church you still can see the seperation lines of the Tolbooth (prison), where executions used to take place. The heart marks the doorway to the point of public execution. It is told that it would bring you good luck if you would spit in the middle of the heart.
So, now you know why you saw people spitting on the ground in Edinburgh.... ;)
Need more luck in your life? You know where to go ;)
Happy Easter holiday everyone!

Edinburgh - Arthur's Seat.
Hi There,
In addition to yesterday's post.. when you had your delicious mail at The Kings Wark, go hike up "Arthur's Seat". The hill rises above the city to a height of 250.5 m (822 ft.), however don't worry, It's relatively easy to climb! It provides excellent panoramic views of the city, so it's definitely worth the climb! #Sophie

Shore Edinburgh, The Kings Wark, Seafood Restaurant #2
For those of you that liked my previous post about "The Fish Temple", I also recommend to visit "The Kings Wark" in Shore Edinburgh. It's a cosy Seafood Restaurant, with a great admosphere and the service and food is amazing.
It was recommended to us by our Travel Guide, which made it's promises difinitely true. We were lucky that the sun was shining, so we could sit outside and enjoy the beautiful view over the harbor of Edinburgh.
And while you're there.. Try Deuchars (Ale brewed in Edinburgh).. tastes nice with Fish and Chips! ;)

Edinburgh Christmas Market
Edinburgh is simply beautiful by Christmas time !
The Christmas Market is situated at Princes Street Gardens, just next to the Edimburgh Castle, and usually goes from the 29th of November to the 24th of December.
You can find festive food, handcrafted toys and Christmas decorations. Also, enjoy the Big Wheel and the outdoor ice rink !!
But be careful, the Christmas Market is very busy at night.

Holyroodhouse Palace, Edinburgh
The
Edinburgh Castle is not the only one of the city. The Holyrood Palace is also a
place you must visit !
It is
situated at the end of the Royal Mile, at the opposite end to Edinburgh Castle.
Holyroodhouse
Palace has been the principal residence of Kings and Queens of Scotland since
the 16th century.
Nowadays,
Queen Elizabeth II stays one week at the beginning of each summer at the Palace.
Also, the Palace is used to host official occasions or entertainments, such as
Garden Parties, etc.
The
entry to the Palace is £12, and you also can access to the garden, which is
beautiful.
At the
end of the visit, don’t forget to make sign your ticket. Like that, you can
keep it and come back for free (don’t lose it !!).

Edinburgh Castle
In Edinburgh you really have to visit the famous Castle located at the top
of the city and builded in the 12th century.
I'd recommend to book the tickets for a tour in the Castle in advance or if you’re doing a City Tour by
bus buy the tickets together. The queue at the Castle might be quiet long, so
planning in advance saves you time (and patience !!).

Overview of Edinburgh
When I
arrived in Scotland, one of the first thing I did was : going to Edinburgh !!
If you
are in Glasgow, you can take either the bus or the train: for a return-ticket, it is quite the same
price (about 12£) and the same time (about a hour to go there).
You can
do a city tour if you want to have a look at the town:
Keep
your ticket, cause it is redeemable for 3 months, just in case of !!
